HOW DOES THE INITIAL SESSION LOOK LIKE?

The first session is a bit different and specific to the sessions that follow. Besides introducing we are going to talk about some specifics of our sessions: confidentiality, price and payment methods, a process in therapy etc. Also, we are going to map your current situation and discuss the form of our meetings in a so called therapeutic agreement. Regular sessions have 50-min format once a week.

HOW DOES CONFIDENTIALITY IN THERAPY WORK?

Basically, whatever you say in counseling/therapy, stays in there. However, there are times when I am legally obliged to break confidentiality. These situations are if a therapist believes that you are in imminent danger of hurting yourself or someone else. All material (your personal information, notes from the sessions, or any other material) is confidential. Nothing will be entered into your medical records.

WHAT IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A PSYCHIATRIST, PSYCHOLOGIST OR PSYCHOTHERAPIST?

Since each of these professionals can provide mental health services, it can be confusing to figure out which one is right for you? The best way to explain it is by breaking down the services they provide.

Psychiatrist: A psychiatrist is a medical doctor (MD) who has done extra training in psychiatry. They are able to diagnose a mental health issue, such as schizophrenia, and prescribe any necessary medication. Psychiatrists may refer their patients to counsellors for therapy.

Psychologist: A psychologist holds a Masters and Bachelor degree in psychology. They are qualified to diagnose mental health issues, but not prescribe medication. Some will do counselling.

Psychotherapists: Psychotherapists are counsellors. They should hold either a master degree in psychology, medicine, or related fields and must be trained for psychotherapy in certified trainings (for the list see https://czap.cz/pro-psychoterapeuty/certifikovane-vycviky).
